Descent into Madness

This entire year has been a sharp descent into lunacy beginning in America, land of the free, as it was, as it never will be. Every day more actions of a madman, many of which affect the rest of the free world. It's almost as if he knows his days on earth are ending and he is determined to leave as much chaos behind as he possibly can.

My sister and her family are American and I haven't visited for some years, but once this is all over, I would love to go and spend time with them. If it is all over. I live in hope that there cannot possibly be anybody with more crazy inside them who will take up the baton. Yesterday's tip from the Big Brother handbook wasn't really a surprise move. But the thought that someone would be so deluded as to think people in Europe and Australia could be ordered to hand over five years of their social media history just to go on a MAGA holiday is, well, madness. Isn't it?

Much as I love my sis, I can think of many places I would rather visit where I wouldn't have to sell my soul and pledge allegiance to the worst person in the world just to get a visa. I am pretty sure we all feel the same and this one will blow over.

Then today I hear that Mengele's, sorry Musk's company, Neuralink, has been successfully implanting threads into human brains using a 'sewing machine-like' device. This is after experiments on primates that showed complications and resulted in the euthanasia of a large number of monkeys when the trial ended. The first recipient, one Noland Arbaugh (really?), a quadriplegic, has apparently reported that despite encountering some issues he can now once again play games such as The Battle of Polytopia. All worth the pain then.

I can't even begin to dwell on what tomorrow may bring but I am struggling to imagine it will be good. Once again I am grateful for my little corner of the earth which, as far as I know, is free from human experimentation and soul-sucking monsters. It's a simple life, not quite put out to pasture, but chewing the cud companionably with my fellow islanders. Leaving the real work to the bright young things. Maybe more people would benefit from taking a leaf from that book. Perhaps the whole world would.
